Gaseous natural gas that has been processed to eliminate specific components—typically to achieve a composition of 90 percent or more methane—and then cooled to its liquefaction point is referred to as liquefied natural gas (LNG). As the name implies, the final product is colorless, non-corrosive, non-toxic, and odorless. Additionally, it occupies approximately 1/600th of the volume of an equivalent amount of gaseous natural gas, making it considerably denser. Due to this substantial reduction in volume, LNG is much more efficient to transport and store compared to conventional natural gas.
